FAQ

  • What is the difference between coaching and therapy?

Coaching does not replace therapy and therapy does not replace coaching. If you are in distress, experiencing severe anxiety, depression or other mental health issues causing reduced functioning in your job, life or relationships it probably makes more sense to explore therapy.

Therapists go through rigorous training to understand and treat many common and more serious mental health disorders including depression, OCD, anxiety suicidal thoughts, bipolar and schizophrenia disorders. We develop skills to assess for crisis, safety issues and warning signs that things may be getting worse.

Therapy will prioritizes crises and then work through symptoms of mental health issues to get you to a point where your social, relational, vocational and daily functioning is no longer impaired.

Therapy may go more internal, deep and relational whereas coaching is more externally focussed on life goals. A goal for therapy might be to increase hopefulness, improve motivation, mood and reduce anxiety or depression whereas a goal for coaching may be to start a business, buy a house or make a career change.

Many therapists will offer a free 15 minute phone consultation so this can be a great place to bring questions if you are unsure about therapy vs. coaching.

  • Do you take insurance?

I am not in network with insurance. I am considered an out-of network provider for psychotherapy. By calling your insurance company (behavioral health department) you can ask if you have any out-of network benefits for psychotherapy. Having an out of network benefit may allow you to be reimbursed for a portion of your psychotherapy session.

  • How do I know if therapy or coaching is right for me?

The best way to know for sure is to set up a free consultation call. This will allow your potential therapist or coach to have a better understanding of what you are going through and for you to get to know them better.

A call will also allow you to ask any specific questions you were wondering about.
